Activities to help the Vienna Zoo by photographing the inhabitants is a source of joyful long-time observations. Animals interact, they give birth, their offspring grows, develops skills and sometimes even little friendships arise.
A special friend is Wladimir, the Orang Utan male. Being a human he would certainly have studied at a technical college - his keen interest in all gear like cameras and film equipment clings him strongly to the glass window; he shows clearly which item he would like to see closer or to be opened. Nonja, the painting female, acts similar, but she is tame with humans anyway.
The Vienna Zoo is also a partner in the breeding pool of the reintroduction project for the Bearded Vulture to the Alps, hosting an adult pair.

The dispersion of the parent birds to many institutions is an important safety measure against epidemic diseases or any other accidential threat.
